What to Expect

A Clear Path Forward—From Concern to Confidence

Whether you’re noticing speech delays, language struggles, feeding challenges, or stuttering, it’s normal to have questions and feel unsure about what comes next.

At Nicole-K Speech Therapy, I guide you step-by-step through a process that is supportive, professional, and personalized. My goal is to make it easy for families and students to get the help they need.

Our Therapy Process

Initial Inquiry

Once you reach out, I’ll respond within 24–48 business hours to learn more about your concerns and determine whether in-home therapy or teletherapy is the best fit.

You can expect:

  • A quick overview call or message exchange
  • A chance to explain your concerns
  • Scheduling guidance and next steps

Free Consultation (Optional, but Recommended)

A consultation is a short meeting to discuss symptoms, history, goals, and recommendations. This is helpful if you’re unsure whether therapy is needed.

During the consultation we may discuss:

  • Speech and language milestones
  • Feeding or oral motor concerns
  • Stuttering patterns and triggers
  • Academic or social challenges
  • Your child’s strengths and communication needs

Outcome:
A clear recommendation on whether an evaluation is needed.

Evaluation / Assessment

If therapy is recommended, the next step is a formal and/or informal evaluation. This helps identify the underlying issue and creates a roadmap for treatment. If child has an IEP a formal evalution is optional.

The evaluation may include:

  • Parent interview and developmental history
  • Standardized speech/language testing (when appropriate)
  • Oral motor assessment
  • Feeding observation (if needed)
  • Fluency assessment
  • Functional communication review

After the evaluation, you’ll receive:

  • A summary of findings
  • Clear therapy recommendations
  • A personalized treatment plan

Personalized Therapy Plan

Therapy plans are built around the client’s goals, learning style, and daily life.

Therapy plans may focus on:

  • Speech sound production
  • Language development and comprehension
  • Feeding routines and tolerance
  • Oral motor strength and coordination
  • Stuttering strategies and confidence-building
  • Social communication skills

Ongoing Therapy Sessions

Sessions are structured, engaging, and designed to help clients make measurable progress.

Sessions may include:

  • Skill-building activities and games
  • Speech drills and targeted practice
  • Visual supports and interactive tools
  • Parent coaching and carryover strategies
  • Progress monitoring and goal adjustments

Frequency of therapy is based on evaluation results and clinical need.

Step 6: Progress Updates + Parent Support

We believe progress happens faster when families understand the “why” behind therapy.

You can expect:

  • Regular updates on goals
  • Home practice recommendations
  • Guidance on how to support progress between sessions
  • Adjustments as the client grows and improves
